Reads that Will Send You Back to the Classroom a Better Teacher
For educators everywhere spring break is a last chance to regroup before the final push to the end of the school year. Make the most of these precious few days at home by picking up a good book.
If you want a practical read that you can implement as soon as you see your students this Monday morning, pick up Making Thinking Visible by Ron Ritchart. Ritchart offers simple routines sure to engage your students and help them grow as thinkers and learners. What’s more, his book is filled with examples from kindergarten to college so you’re sure to find something you’d like to try.
If you’re looking for inspiration, try Rafe Esquith’s book, Teach Like Your Hair’s on Fire. Esquith spent years pouring into students in one of our nation’s most impoverished districts. His book will remind you what a difference just one teacher can make and will give you the encouragement you need to meet your toughest student on Monday morning.
If you just need a good laugh check out 32 Third Graders and One Class Bunny, by Phillip Done. Done will remind you that even though you may be the only adult in your classroom, you are most certainly not alone in the daily grind. His comically honest memoir is sure to have you laughing out loud and will send you to school on Monday with a spring in your step.
